Read more >You may have heard that Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) is now available in Western Australia.
This is an incredibly emotive subject but we are fully compliant with the new WA legislation which includes commitment to providing palliative and end-of-life care which is appropriate to each resident’s particular situation under our care.
We support our residents to die with both comfort and dignity by ensuring that the resident’s wishes are guiding our care.
Although staff are not permitted to participate directly in VAD, we will not impede eligible residents from accessing VAD should they wish to, and will continue to provide care, support and compassion for those who choose VAD.
To this end, our staff will respond respectfully, compassionately and lawfully to requests by residents for information about VAD eligibility and referrals.
We are currently spending time educating our staff on VAD.
